Blackadder is a British sitcom that premiered in 1983 and ran for six episodes. The series follows the misadventures of Edmund, the Duke of Edinburgh - better known as "The Black Adder" - the overlooked second son of King Richard IV. Desperate to win his father’s favour and rise in power, Edmund schemes his way through the royal court, ultimately setting his sights on the throne itself. Set in 1485 at the close of the Middle Ages, the show presents an alternative history in which Richard III wins the Battle of Bosworth Field, only to be accidentally killed by his great-nephew Edmund, paving the way for Richard IV, one of the infamous Princes in the Tower, to take the crown.
