The Life of Brian - Top 5 Scenes

Posted by Mitchel Dean on

Almost 40 years since its release, Life of Brian still remains to be one of the funniest films of all time and arguably Monty Python’s finest creation. In utter appreciation for the story of the hapless Brian Cohen and his trials under the oppression of the bloody Romans, we’ve compiled a list of top 5 favourite moments in this monumental British comedy triumph:

5. 'Blessed are the cheesemakers'
This hilarious take on the sermon on the mount highlights some of the potential difficulties of public speaking 2000 years before PA systems were invented.
4. 'Don't you oppress me!'

Transgender rights had a long way to go in Ancient Rome, thank goodness for 'The Peoples' Front of Judea'.
3. 'Alright I AM the Messiah!'
Mass hysteria can break out at any moment with an ill informed, deluded mob of fanatics such as these, desperate for salvation they'll make a messiah out of anyone, whether they like it or not.
2. 'That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehova'
Ironically not too dissimilar from how this movie was received by many of its religious critics. For this poor sod, blasphemy returns a passing compliment with a sadistic blend of entertainment and justice - Roman style.
1. Welease Wodewick!

Not so easy to be a convincing tyrant with a speech impediment. Okay, so we missed out the Judean Peoples' Front, but its impossible to narrow down all the great moments of this movie into just 5. This iconic scene from the film however has got to be the most hilarious of all and so, makes the top spot.
